Chemical solution is a homogenous mixture of one or more substances dispersed molecularly in a sufficient quantity of dissolving medium. The major component is called solvent and the minor components are called solute.
Many chemical reactions are carried out in solutions and solutions are also closely related to our everyday lives. The air we breathe, the liquids we drink, and the fluids in our body are all solutions. Furthermore, we are surrounded by solutions such as the air and water bodies. The concentration of a solution refers to the quantity of solute dissolved in a particular quantity of solvent or solution. There are five main methods used for calculation of and preparation of solutions in basic chemistry laboratory i.e., concentration in moles per litre, molarity, concentration by percentage and in gram per litre and preparing solutions by dilution and preparing saturated solution. The ability of liquids to dissolve other fluids or solids has many practical applications. Chemists take advantage 0f differences in solubility to separate and purify materials and to carry out chemical analysis. Most chemical reactions occur in solution and are influenced by the solubilities of the reagents. Â |

It will tell about the ways and methods to prepare solutions of known concentration from a solid and by dilution from a stock solution.Students will learn about basic techniques used in chemistry laboratory for preparation, purification and identification of chemical solutions. It will also help students to understand the use of solubility products to determine various chemical reactions and properties. It will help students to understand how solutions are closely related to our everyday life. | |
